Report: WhisprWave® Floating Breakwater Installation Will Reduce Beach Erosion at Cypremort Point State Park, LA |
News Release November 12, 2003
Installation at Cypremort to Showcase the Continuing Effort to Protect Louisiana Shoreline. Summit, New Jersey - November 12, 2003 - Wave Dispersion Technologies (WDT) announced today it has completed the installation of a 1500-foot floating breakwater for the Cypremort Point State Park Beach Erosion Control Project in Cypremort Point, LA. The WhisprWave® was part of the refurbishment plan at the State Park, following damage caused by a previous hurricane. The WhisprWave® Breakwaters / Barriers recently passed the test of Hurricane Isabel when they experienced sustained winds of 80 MPH with gusts of up to 100 MPH without suffering any damage or necessary maintenance. The floating breakwater is designed to reduce future erosion generated by wind driven waves on the beach, which recently received 11,000 cubic yards of sand during the reconstruction. The WhisprWave® Breakwaters have a modular design that increases the product's flexibility and strength for maritime applications. CEO Mr. Dennis Smith stated, “The State anticipates the refurbishment of the Cyprermort Point Park will increase visitor traffic by as much as 5 times. We are excited to see the completion and the protective value of this project come to fruition following the August 25th contract. We believe that Louisiana will continue to invest in its coastal resources in a multiyear plan that will lend visibility, credibility and worldwide exposure to our product.” The contract, for the breakwater was between WDT and Coastal Construction and Engineering Corp., as contractor for the State of Louisiana. Duties were divided with WDT providing the floating breakwater and technical expertise and Coastal providing the actual installation and construction management. Due to the WhisprWave's design specifications, the maintenance of the breakwater is expected to be minimal, as required by the State Architect.
